  • Franchised IP:

Characters and setting are licensed.
Authorisation to use licensed material is given by the licensor to a licencee.

The character like Deadpool (popular comic book character) has been given his own game after the license to use him ,and a few other characters like Wolverine and Rogue, was bought by HighMoon Studios by Marvel. This game attracted Deadpool fans and the game was successful, it was hilarious and fun to play and the fans loved it. This mean't more sales, making money for the developers and Marvel, the owner of the characters in the game. The successfulness of the game could lead to a sequal to make more money from the franchise.

  • Serailised Original IP:
serealised original IP are created from scratch and are often inspired by other copyrighted works, then built into a series. an example of this would be the Devil May Cry series.

In 1998, after the completion of Resident Evil 2, preliminary work on a PlayStation 2 installment of the Resident Evil series began under the direction of Hideki Kamiya, under the name "Team Little Devil". Early research and development work included a trip to Spain to examine various castles as a basis for the game's environments. However, in prototype status, it proved to be a radical departure from the established Resident Evil formula and the survival horror genre in general. Rather than abandon the project entirely, the premise was changed and it eventually became Devil May Cry.

After the fourth game a reboot was released on January 2013 by the name DmC: Devil may Cry. This game included the redesign of the main character, Dante, and fans reacted negatively; despite this, the game recieved great reviews and was a success.

Characters and setting, like Tomb Raider are licensed.
Authorisation to use licensed material is given by the licensor to a licencee.
Tomb Raider was first released in 1996 on the plastaion and became popular. After becoming one of the biggest game franchises in gaming,Tomb Raider was licensed to Paramount Pictures to make a Tomb Raider film in 2001 and was a commercial success and a sequal was made in 2003 that recieved mostly negative reviews.
